Prague, July 14 (CTK) - Six health facilities started to offer vaccination against hepatitis A to Prague drug addicts Monday, Nina Janyskova, Prague drug coordinator, has told CTK.

A number of drug addicts have been infected with the disease in the past few weeks. The incidence of hepatitis A increased almost 10 times in the first half of the year compared with the same period last year.

In June the number of hepatitis cases grew even 18 times year-on-year.

The vaccine has been provided by the Health Ministry and the drug addicts will get it for free.

One dose of a combined preventative vaccine against... hepatitis A and B costs 900 to 1500 crowns. The vaccination is in three doses.

"We cannot expect people who themselves harm their health so much to pay the vaccination by themselves. If the disease spread, its treatment would be much more expensive," Janyskova said.
